Through time we have described our experiences in songs and music – our relationships – our fears – our history – our conquests – our defeats – our ambitions – our hopes and dreams – and most of all – our loves.

Beyond Life – Faith

Through time we have wondered what lies beyond – where did we come from – where do we go when we die – what is our soul – where is it – do we have a soul – who created us – and most of all – why are we here.

Between Life and Faith – the Gap

For some faith is non existent – we are born – we live and then we die. That is it – end of story. For others faith is certainty – it is absolute and it’s true. Between the two views there is a huge gulf – a gap.

And for the rest of us – the probable majority – it is in this gap that we live. Our beliefs fading in and out like an old fashioned radio signal – a handful of habits roughly followed – some traditions loosely observed. We have unstructured thoughts – distant memories from school – views sometimes shaped by events – but underneath there is a vague feeling that there has to be something else – something deeper – but – you know – “it’s complicated”

What inspires Lemon Streets Music?

Imagine a street full of ripe lemon trees – their fruit ready to burst. You can see the sparkle – smell the tang and almost feel and taste the zingy tingle on your tongue. There is no escaping a reaction – love it – hate it – shiver down your spine – want more – or not for me.

Lemon Streets are the name we give to similar existential thoughts – who are we – where did we come from – why were we born – how do we live – is there something more – what happens when we die – is there a God – why is the world the way it is. A thought that sparks a reaction similar to a lemon….

And Streets? – Well they take you from one place to another.

What is Lemon Streets Music?

Lemon Streets Music is the name of the small label set up to record and release the songs and music of Doug Sutherland – a Scot who left school with the vague notion of becoming a rock and roll guitarist …but ended up an accountant.

After a career in the corporate world he returned full time to his first love – music. He continues to sing – play – record and release tracks with friends and family – and hopes in his own words “to do so until the man above – or nature – or whatever brings the curtains down.”

These songs generally explore and reflect his fascination with life … with faith … and with the interaction of the two.

The Aim of Lemon Streets Music

The songs are regarded as little ships sent out to sail the sound waves of the world. Songs that hopefully people will listen to – enjoy – reflect on – sing – take comfort from – react to – and/or pass on to others. Different messages will resonate with different people at different times – but with a fair wind – one of the underlying themes – present in a number of the songs – that of peace – love – and hope – will fill the sails and make it’s power felt.
